Zirque Circus Arts Blogazine
Challenge
Build an online magazine incorporating a realistic business model utilizing a blank Wordpress theme. Create original layouts and designs customized to the content of each story to captivate users and keep them interested in coming back for fresh new content.
Solution
Zirque is a blogazine showcasing international circus arts. Revenue is generated through native sponsored ads which are related to the article content. There are social share buttons for each article to help drive traffic to the site and online store.
Task & Tools
Concept, User Research, Branding, Content Creation, Persona, Responsive Style Tile, Wireframes, Responsive Web Design, Wordpress
My Role
This was an individual project.
Research
I began with research to identify potential Zirque readership and developed a persona. Zirque’s target readers are the 100 million people who have seen Cirque du Soleil productions worldwide as well as the 78,850 people who attend Burning Man yearly.
Logo and Responsive Style Tile
I created a logo and style tile using chose Din and Muli typefaces to capture the contemporary mood of the site. I developed wireframes, curated all the articles and built the site in Wordpress.
Home Page Wireframe
The homepage has links to all features, interviews and review articles.
Home Page
I used large hero images for each featured article to peak the reader’s interest. The following main areas of content are features, interviews and reviews. Each area has an image and an excerpt to entice the reader further into each article.
Interviews Page
I wanted to have a rhythm to the layout that incorporated lush imagery to captivate the potential audience. I included plenty of white space around the images and text and the layout varies for each of the three sections of content.
Responsive Layouts
I kept the layouts interesting as the site scaled down to fit mobile devices.
